The Mobile Companion App(Android & iOS), is centered around getting easy access to character sheets and making rolls from it.

Up until 2020, Roll20 had an older mobile app, which had a spotty track record. Roll20-for-iPad-and-Android

In early 2021, the new mobile app went into public beta for Pro users, and since Oct. 2021, the beta app is free for everyone.

If you are playing in-person, you may want to join a game that you haven't previously been a part of, which can most easily be done via QR code. Players of the game can then click "Join Game" from the campaign screen, and select to scan for such a code.
