This is a guide to the Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition-character sheet. When talking about mechanics, where possible we have tried to link to page numbers of the book to aid you.
The Classic World of Darkness' (CWoD) "Vampire: the Masquerade 5th Edition"-character sheet was created as part of The Grand Coterie, a group whose aim is to help provide content and tools for the World of Darkness (WoD) community. In particular the developers of this sheet were FistOFun, TGC and Obi. If you have any questions or find any bugs, please direct them to FistOFun and they will be dealt with as soon as possible.
The aim of the sheet is to provide more than an entry point for your characters stats but to streamline dice rolling, automatic calculations where possible and to roll templates.

Setup
Installation
This is about a Roll20 feature exclusive to Pro-subscribers (and often to players in a Game created by a Pro-subscriber). If you'd like to use this feature, consider upgrading your account. |
For this character sheet to work fully, you'll also need to install an API Script in your Campaign.
- Create your game and from the Character sheet selection, pick Vampire the Masquerade 5th Edition.
- Go to Settings -> API Settings
- From the API dropdown selection, pick Vampire The Masquerade 5th Edition Dice Mechanics. You are now good to go. If not, go to step 4.
- Click New Script and call it
hq.js
(any name will do, the suffix must be.js
) - Copy the contents of VTM_Dice_Mechanics.js into the
hq.js
window and press Save. - You are now good to go ^_^!
In the event that you have access to the files either via the Official GitHub Repo or another source.
- Create your new Roll20 game.
- Go to Settings -> Game Settings
- Copy the HTML file in the HTML Layout, the CSS file in the CSS Styling and the
translation.json
into the Translation section. Press Save. (If English is not your primary language the translations folder contains alternate replacement fortranslation.json
, the following link will let you know what language each file corresponds to.. We are updating the sheet to support as many languages as Roll20 will allow. - Go to Settings -> API Settings
- Click New Script and call it
hq.js
(any name will do, the suffix must be.js
) - Copy the contents
VTM_Dice_Mechanics.js
in thehq.js
window and press save. - You are now good to go ^_^!
(Optional)Enable Custom Fonts
The sheet has a number of custom fonts built in which are by default blocked by Chrome and Firefox. These are entirely optional and merely provide a better aesthetic. If you want access to them when in your game please perform the following:
- For Chrome: Click the shield icon in the right of your address bar and select to allow the script.
- For Firefox: Click the "i" icon in the left of your address bar. Click the arrow to "Show connection details" and then click the button to "Disable protection for now".
When creating your game. We recommend that you create your character sheets as normal, however you also create one character sheet to share among all the players to represent their Coterie. By pressing the tab in the top-right corner, the Character Sheet will change to a Coterie Sheet with all the relevant fields you would require.
Character Sheet
Rolling
Next to each attribute and trait is a button. This will roll the value of the corresponding dice poll and will ask you about any additional attributes/traits/modifiers you wish to add to your roll.
When required the Hunger stat will be automatically deducted from your dice pool and rolled separately. The number of Hunger dice rolled is limited to the smallest of either your Hunger level or your dice pool size (Page 205).
Rouse will always roll only a single dice.
The dicepools for Frenzy(Page 219 & 240), Remorse(Page 239) and Humanity are calculated according to the book.
Disciplines
Disciplines can be added and removed dynamically using the Add and Modify button, with a basic roll set in the combo boxes provided. It's worth noting that the first "roll button" next to the discipline level will roll Rouse, this is here for convenience. The second "roll button" will roll the specified stats AND will automatically take into account bonuses due to blood potency.
By clicking the arrow "<" next to the word "Powers" a number of fields will be displayed, this is room you can use to write down each power you have associated with the discipline and what dice pool it requires. Further there is a useful "Details" box in which you can put a description of your discipline, this description will then be posted into the chat when you press the "Display button". This is a useful tool for quick referencing what Disciplines do.
It's worth noting that if the Power you are using requires number of dots you have in its primary discipline as part of the dice pool you should select the "Discipline" option in the second combo box.
Inline vs API rolling
If the creator of the campaign (usually the StoryTeller/Gamemaster) has a Pro Roll20-account, they should have access to the "Vampire The Masquerade 5th Edition Dice Mechanics" API script. In this case we highly recommend you pester them to ensure you can use it and check the check box at the top of each character sheet (just below the tabs). This will unlock a number of different features including banners, re-rolls and custom dice displayed that will make you gaming experience a lot more streamlined. It will also mean there are less manual steps for each roll. Unfortunately this functionality can not be ported to Inline rolling.
(Pro-account holders) To install the API script: Go to Settings -> API Settings. On the new page select the "Vampire, The Masquerade 5th Edition Dice Mechanics" API and press save. You are now good to go.
Noted below are some of the key differences to watch out for between the two roll types.
Inline rolls
- To find out exactly what dice have been rolled, hover the mouse over the number of successes. In rolls where the Hunger dice are used (Attribute, Ability, Discipline rolls) if you fail, check to see if you rolled a 1 on the Hunger dice. If this is the case then consult the rules to determine how to proceed (Page 207, 208). Further the number of Normal (Vampire) dice should automatically
- On a roll, if the number of successes is green, you may have rolled a critical or messy critical success. Hover the mouse over and count how many 10's a rolled to determine if you rolled a critical (Page 120) or a messy critical success (Page 206, 207). Please note, the extra 2 successes for a Crit are not automatically added.
API rolls
- The dice rolls are already displayed. For standard rolls banners will display if your roll is a Crit (Page 120), Messy Crit (Page 206, 207). Moreover the extra successes for scoring a critical or messy critical success are automatically added to the total.
- For standard rolls, in the event of a Total Failure (Page 122) a Miss/Fail banner will be displayed
- In the event you roll a 1 on a Hunger dice The Beast Banner will appear. This is a warning. If the ST says you did not make the required number of successes then the beast influences you and you should consult the rules to determine what happens next (Page 207, 208).
- In events your dice pool should be zero (due to a large negative modifier or you are unskilled) you will be given one dice to roll. A banner stating "Last Resort" will occur, while this has no official rules ST's may like to implement custom rules if players decide to try their luck and fails.
- Willpower rolls are determined by the number of full check boxes, damaged ones do not count. (Page 119)
- Remorse is calculated automatically based on rules stated on Page 239.
- Humanity will roll the number of completely filled check boxes on your humanity tracker.
- As part of the roll template, under each roll there is a Re-roll button. This will re-roll exactly the same roll as the button it is attached to, using exactly the same stats and modifiers.
Notes
- Discipline rolls already account for the bonus due to Blood Potency. (Page 216)
- In the Discipline section, the first button rolls Rouse, the second button rolls your skills.
- Currently Frenzy is the only roll that requests a DC, this is because in API mode the results banner displayed changes depending on if you meet the DC or not. If enough people want it, the request for a DC can be moved to every roll (For API Mode), this has currently been left off as it enables the ST to be more flexible when deciding on difficulty. (Page 219, 240)
- The Willpower re-roll button is there to aid you if you want to spend a point of willpower.
- Mouse over text has been added in some locations and should help clear up some confusion.
Custom Roll
There are two sections in the Custom Rolls section currently. The top section is for people with access to the API, the bottom is for those who are using the Inline rolling. This is a great section to store all your individual discipline rolls or any rolls you make often. There are however a couple points to note about this section.
- Disciplines can't be referred to in the drop down, so please use the section below where you can enter a specific value. (This is a coding restraint, I've yet to overcome)
- Clicking the Hunger checkbox will apply Hunger to your roll.
- Clicking the Blood Potency checkbox will apply Blood Potency according to discipline rules. (Page 216)
Coterie Section
The final button is where you can store all your Coterie information. I highly recommend your ST creates a single character sheet for your Coterie alone and shares it with all players. Here you can note shared backgrounds, merits and flaws, your haven and domain.
