There are two distinct things you can gift other Roll20 users.

Gift a Roll20 Subscription - you can gift other users Roll20 subscription or credit to use on subscription.
subscription credit can only be used on subscription, not to buy from marketplace ^[1]

Marketplace Gift^(Market) - you can gift people Marketplace items. Make sure to check if they have a public Wishlist.
