Finding Music/Sounds
From the Jukebox, click the +Add button, then click Track to open a popup with tabs for audio options.
SoundCloud
From the SoundCloud tab, use the dropdown menu to select if you're looking for background music, sound effects, or to search all of SoundCloud. Enter keywords in the search box to look for sounds.
You can also find a specific SoundCloud track by pasting its URL into the search field.
You can Preview a track by pressing the Play button.
Tabletop Audio
From the Tabletop Audio tab, use the Search For: dropdown menu to filter the Tabletop Audio tracks available. Filter via All Tracks or by genre.
You can Preview a track by pressing the Play button.
Using Your Own Music/Sounds
To play your own music or sound effects, you’ll need to create a SoundCloud account and upload your tracks to it. Make sure to set your SoundCloud library to Public which will allow Roll20 to stream your audio.
Adding tags such as “Roll20”, “ambient” or “orchestral” will allow Roll20’s search filter to locate your uploaded audio. It may require up to 15 minutes for Roll20 to locate your freshly uploaded track via a keyword search.
Note: SoundCloud’s TOS prohibits the streaming of copyrighted content. Upload at your own risk. |
As noted earlier, you can also bypass searching for your audio track on SoundCloud by pasting its URL directly into the Roll20 music search.
Adding Tracks to Your Game
Add music/sounds from SoundCloud or Tabletop Audio directly to your current session's library by clicking the + button from the Jukebox popup next to the track you'd like to include.
Folders
Folders can be used to help organize music and sounds within the Jukebox. Jukebox folders are similar to Journal Folders in functionality, drag the handles to move items in and out of the folders. The Jukebox folder system is only 1 deep, sub-folders are not available in the Jukebox.
Adding Folders
Click the +Add button, then click Folder. Name the folder in the popup and click Ok to add the named folder to your Jukebox.
Folder Options
Right click a folder to reveal folder options. You can sort, rename, or delete folders. Deleting folders does not remove the contents, all items in deleted folders are be moved to the root folder.
Renaming/Reordering Tracks
To rename a track, simply click on its title in the Jukebox tab of the Sidebar (after you've added it to your game). Type a new name and press Return to save. Reorder tracks by moving them using the handle icon next to the track name or if the tracks are in a folder, you can sort them alphabetically, by right clicking and selecting the option Sort A-Z.
Playing Music/Sounds in Game
Any tracks you've added to your game can be played by simply pressing the play button next to the track or folder in the Jukebox tab of the Sidebar. It will be audible to all players in the session. Note that you can play more than one file at a time and all individual files can be looped by pressing the loop icon next to the track. Each track has its own volume control which can be used to normalize their volume.
Play from Folders
Folders have their own set of play options. Next to the name of the playlist you'll find a "Play" button as well as a toggle for the "Play Mode" of the playlist.
Back to Back
"Back to Back" indicates that each track will be played individually one after another. When the end of the playlist is reached, it will start again from the beginning. If an individual track is looped with the folder using this option when the playlist gets to that track it will just keep looping.
Shuffle
"Shuffle" indicates that the tracks will be played in a random order. Note that the order is synchronized across clients so that it will still play in the same order for everyone. The playlist will continue playing shuffled until you pause it manually. You should not use looped tracks with this option or it will just loop the same track over and over.
All at Once
"All At Once" indicates that all tracks in the playlist will start playing once you play the playlist. Note that it is up to each track's individual loop settings to determine if it will loop after it plays once. You can mix and match looped and unlooped tracks with this option.
Now Playing Widget
At the top of the Jukebox is a small "Now Playing" widget. This tool is visible to players in game and will only display tracks that are currently playing. Pressing Play will add tracks to the widget and GMs can stop directly from this widget.
Play from Page Settings
There is a new option under the Page Settings dialog box at the bottom which will allow you to choose a Jukebox track or Playlist which will automatically play when you move the players to the page. Note that this only takes effect when a GM moves the Player Ribbon to the page, not for the "split the party" feature (since the Jukebox is global, not player-specific).
Master Volume Control
In addition to the Game Master's control of individual track volume in the Jukebox tab, each person connected to the game can also use the Master Volume Control located under the Settings tab to control the volume level of all music being played.
